Whether you know Krispy Kreme of old or have just tasted a Hot Original Glazed for the first time, we thought you might be interested to learn a bit about our long and rich history. You may not know that Krispy Kreme has been around in America since 1937!

Vernon Rudolph bought a yeast-raised doughnut recipe from a French chef from New Orleans, rented a building in what is now called historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, and began selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts on July 13 1937 to local grocery stores. People soon began stopping in to ask if they could buy hot doughnuts, so he cut a hole in the wall and starting selling Hot Original Glazed doughnuts directly to customers.

Krispy Kreme didnt reach the Uk till 2003 and our first store was in the world famous Harrods department store, opened in October 2003. Since then we've improved our coffee programme and introduced our new Hot Doughnut Machine technology, which allows us to bring the hot doughnut experience to more people.
